Meet the management team
Mark Porter, CEO
Mark Porter is an Iron Range Native who oversees all drilling operations and maintenance along with the day-to-day operations of the business. Mark brings 30 years of drilling knowledge of which 20 plus years was operating drills daily. Starting off his career in the environmental and geotechnical field, Mark worked his way up to a field foreman, then a regional manager, and finally a Vice President role he served for 5 years. In 2019, Mark started Taconite Drilling. Mark’s experience in handling projects from the initial contact with the client until project completion, and in a hands-on role is what makes Taconite Drilling the preferred diamond drilling contractor.
In addition to drilling, Mark served his country and is a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Operation Desert Storm.

Max Motley, COO
Max Motley is an Iron Range Native who has 10 years of experience in the mining and exploration drilling industries. In addition to supporting the operations of the business, he is responsible for the design, monitoring, tracking and reporting for all of Taconite Drillings environmental, health, and safety systems. Max holds a bachelors degree in accounting and a master’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
